Pick a category, type a value, and convert between any two units. The formula is shown under the answer, and the table below converts your value into every unit in the category.
1 mi = 1.609344 km, so 5 mi × 1.609344 = 8.04672 km

Most units convert with a single factor: the value is turned into a base unit (meters, kilograms, seconds…) and then into the target unit. The formula line shows that combined factor, so you can reuse it by hand.
Temperature is the exception because its scales have different zero points, so the formula includes an offset. Fuel economy is the other special case: L/100km is the reciprocal of km/L and mpg, so a bigger mpg means a smaller L/100km.
Month and year in the time category are averages over the Gregorian calendar (30.44 and 365.2425 days). For exact calendar gaps between real dates, use the date calculator.
Why is 1 GB not the same as 1 GiB?
Gigabyte (GB) is decimal: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Gibibyte (GiB) is binary: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (2³⁰). Drive makers usually quote GB while operating systems often count in GiB, which is why a 500 GB drive shows up as about 465 GiB.
Why can't temperature be converted with a single factor?
Celsius and Fahrenheit have different zero points, so you need to multiply and then add an offset. For example °F = °C × 1.8 + 32. Kelvin and Rankine start at absolute zero, so converting between those two alone is a plain factor of 1.8.
How do I convert mpg to L/100km?
L/100km measures fuel used per distance, while mpg measures distance per fuel, so one is the reciprocal of the other. For US gallons, L/100km = 235.215 ÷ mpg; for UK gallons it's 282.481 ÷ mpg. A car doing 30 mpg (US) uses about 7.84 L/100km.
How accurate are the conversions?
Every factor is the exact defined value where one exists (1 inch is exactly 2.54 cm, 1 pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, 1 US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 L). Results are shown to 10 significant digits.
